大學到底需要什麼樣的學生
從英國大學慎重的選才角度看一些東方國家的招生考試，實在是很不人道，而且就是各大學搶人混戰的元兇。
聯招可以減少學生的負擔，卻也有不少後遺症。很多人不知道，現在台灣聯大所有學生幾乎都可以透過申請，轉校、轉系。即使如此，內部的矛盾整合還是需要時間。
比方說，台灣聯大研究所聯合招生，有的進行的很不順利，成績一公佈，有的所變成最末志願，有人不爽就獨立招生。問題是最末志願都退出，幾年就玩完了。還好，為了減少學生的奔波勞累，我們甘願當榜尾，才讓聯招可以繼續玩下去。不同學校間的競合，更令人頭大。尤其是玩起大規模的大學聯招，自以為「有頭有臉」的學校就完全放不下，再加上高中學生、家長、老師的集體嘉年華撐腰，讓每年的招生過程充滿戲劇性。
英國大學根本沒有大學聯招，他們的入學方式很簡單。申請牛津大學物理系大學部要先考pat這個測驗。 測驗時間 2小時，附錄上題目是數學11題、物理14題。值得注意的是，這些題目難度相當於我們所謂的中偏易，卻可測出學生學習深度的考題。底下是他們在網頁上公佈的考古題，題目對有志物理研究的學生而言，相當淺顯都很難恰當形容。
重點哦，考試是免費的，英國到處都有測驗中心可以考試，很多高中也提供測驗。總之，英國人不懂得「作弊」，考試稀鬆平常。
通過初選後才會受邀參加面試，學生面試時間大約停留三天，底下有相關連結和說明。
總之，英國的大學大部份基礎科學系所，幾百年來自有一套教學內容，很多人試過都很難更動，所以想來唸的學生只能自己預先準備好，想辦法說服面試老師「我已經準備好了」，或者你要讓老師相信「不唸我會怎樣怎樣」來感動老師。
面對大時代的變動，大學有很多的功課要做，而且研究所才是學校的重心，種種變化已經讓大學焦頭爛額，至於大學部要不要、或有沒有能力配合高中的變化，除了心力交瘁外，實在也是一個很大的學問。

Motivation: a real interest and strong desire to learn physics.
Ability to express physical ideas using mathematics; mathematical ability.
Reasoning ability: ability to analyse and solve problems using logical and critical approaches.
Physical intuition: an ability to see how one part of a physical system connects with another; and to predict what will happen in a given physical situation.
Communication: ability to give precise explanations both orally and numerically.
